Who we are:
The Tic Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a National Service that cares for children and young people up to the age of 17 years. We have a specialist multi-disciplinary team that works closely with other departments within GOSH and routinely shares the care of children with local services. There is a strong research collaboration between GOSH, University College London and other Tourette Syndrome clinics in the UK. We have an international reputation for clinical research into assessment and treatment for Tourette Syndrome.
Specialist training:
Many professionals working with populations who have tics value training in assessment, formulation and treatment skills. In response to this, we have put together two training packages for clinicians or researchers who work in this field. Attendees will learn to distinguish between tic disorders, and the overlap with other differentials, practice skills in using standardised assessment tools and consider case studies.
What the training will provide:
Expert information on neurodevelopmental tic disorders such as Tourette Syndrome
Learn how to distinguish between Tourette syndrome, Functional Tics and other neurodevelopmental movements
The course will provide training of gold standard assessment measures, along with theoretical and practical training in assessment and formulation.
The course will contain training videos, case study discussions, reference materials to use post-training and a certificate of attendance.
Who should attend:
Healthcare professionals from disciplines such as Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Neurology. The training will be most helpful for those who regularly encounter young people with tics in their clinical work or research. We welcome attendees who work with children, young people, and adults. It is appropriate for colleagues working in the UK or internationally.
Training:
The training will be delivered via a remote platform. Members of The Tic Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital will deliver the course. These are interactive sessions and there are opportunities to ask questions and have discussions with the training team.
